Privacy Policy
HoopMe ("HoopMe," "we," "us") is a mobile app that helps people find pickup basketball — see which courts have games going, who's around, and let others know you're ready to run. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. HoopMe is operated by AJP Studios LLC (support@hoopme.app).
By using HoopMe you agree to this Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. Information we collect
Account & identity
- Email address — only if you choose to save your account. You can use HoopMe as an anonymous guest with no email; adding an email (via a one-time code) lets you keep your profile and history across devices and reinstalls.
- Account identifiers — a unique user ID we generate, and (for guests) an anonymous device-linked ID.
Profile information you provide
- Display name and @username (handle)
- Profile photo (avatar), if you add one
- Optional: height, birthdate (used only to show an age range, e.g. "20s"), and play styles (e.g. Shooter, Defense)
- Follow preferences (e.g. whether to auto-approve followers)
Content you create
- Quick statuses (short text + an optional emoji) — these auto-expire after about 8 hours
- "Open to play" availability and an optional note — auto-expires after about 4 hours
- Check-ins and runs — when you check in at a court, we store which court and when (and an optional headcount you set), which becomes your run history
- Saved (favorite) courts
- Reports and blocks you submit about other users
Social information
- Your follow relationships (who you follow and who follows you, including pending requests) and your "I'm in" responses to others' availability.
Location
- With your permission, HoopMe uses your device's location while you are using the app to show nearby courts and players and to calculate how far courts are from you. We do not track your location in the background, and we do not store your continuous or precise GPS coordinates on our servers.
- When you check in at a court, we store which court you checked into (a public court location) and the time — not your raw device coordinates. You can deny or revoke location permission in your device Settings; the app still works, but nearby/distance features will be limited.
Technical information
- Standard server and security logs from our infrastructure provider (such as IP address, timestamps, and basic device/app information) used to operate and protect the service.
2. How we use your information
- Provide core features: maps, nearby courts, check-ins, statuses, availability, profiles, and following
- Maintain your account and let you keep your data across devices
- Keep HoopMe safe: review reports, enforce our rules, and moderate content (see below)
- Operate, troubleshoot, and improve the app
- Comply with law and protect the rights and safety of users and the public
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
3. How information is shared
With other users
Your profile (name, @username, avatar, and any optional details you add), your current status/availability, and your check-ins are visible to other HoopMe users by design — that's how people find games. Don't put anything in your profile, statuses, or photos that you wouldn't want other users to see.
With service providers (sub-processors)
- Supabase — our backend provider, which hosts our database, authentication, and file storage on our behalf.
- Sightengine — an automated image-moderation provider. When you upload a profile photo, the image is sent to Sightengine to automatically screen it for explicit, violent, or otherwise prohibited content. If a photo fails the check, it is removed and not used.
- Apple — map display uses Apple Maps (MapKit), and account/app services use Apple's platform. Their handling of data is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
These providers process data only to provide their services to us.
For legal and safety reasons
We may disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of HoopMe, our users, or others.
4. Content moderation
To keep HoopMe safe and comply with app-store requirements, profile photos are automatically screened (see Sightengine above), and we review user reports of objectionable content or abusive behavior, typically acting within 24 hours by removing content and/or restricting accounts. You can also block other users at any time.
5. Data retention
- Quick statuses auto-expire (~8 hours); "open to play" availability auto-expires (~4 hours).
- Profile, follow relationships, check-in/run history, and saved courts are kept while your account is active.
- Reports and blocks are kept as needed for safety and enforcement.
- When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal data, except where we must retain certain records for legal, security, or fraud-prevention purposes.
6. Your choices and rights
- Edit or remove profile details and your photo any time in the app.
- Location: control or revoke permission in your device Settings.
- Block other users from the app.
- Delete your account any time in Settings → Delete account, or email support@hoopme.app to request deletion.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data. To make a request, contact us at support@hoopme.app.
7. Children
HoopMe is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards (including access controls and encryption in transit) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice in the app where appropriate.
